MOXXI System Overview

The MOXXI system is an integrated solution created for primary care physicians. It is the only system that is linked to the Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ), the provincial database of dispensed prescriptions and medical services.

Through the link to the RAMQ, physicians are able to identify all dispensed drugs and all medical services provided to their patients. This feature provides primary care physicians with a better control and understanding of their patients drug intake and health problems.

On top of the electronic prescription pad, other features of the MOXXI system include:

  1. Electronic prescription
  2. A drug profile
  3. An alert system
  4. A problem list
  5. Decision Support Tools

Electronic prescription

Perhaps the easiest function to use in MOXXI is the prescription pad. Physicians need to simply enter the first few letters of the searched drug and a comprehensive list of all the drugs is presented.

A prescription is completed by specifying the posology and the length of the treatment. The information is saved electronically, and patients receive a printed, legible prescription.

Drug profile

The drug profile is a table that contains the names of all the drugs that the patient has been taking for the last 24 months. The drugs in blue indicate drugs that have been prescribed by the MOXXI physicians and the drugs in red are the ones prescribed by other physicians, like specialists or at the ER. Physicians are also able to see if patients have been filling in their prescriptions and if there has been any drug purchase overlap. Physicians can also monitor the cost that the patient is paying monthly for drugs.

Alert system

Another important feature of MOXXI is the alert system. The alert engine checks for every drug-drug and drug-disease interaction. If there is any alert, physicians are asked to address it before printing. It brings to their attention critical information about their patient’s health.

Problem list

Through its unique communication system with the RAMQ, MOXXI does not only get information about patient drugs but also about patients’ health problems. All medical procedures and diagnoses information is directly sent to the MOXXI screen so that physicians can keep an up-to-date record of their patient’s problem list. Physicians can also easily update this list. This allows the doctor to have access to the information they need to give the best care possible for their patients.

Decision Support Tools

The specialized decision support tools integrated in the MOXXI system provide healthcare specialists with unique software services designed and clinically proven to improve patient care and outcomes.

These innovative clinical support tools use logical rules and statistical models to encode biomedical knowledge that prompts clinicians to take actions that will support the effective and safe prevention and management of disease. The software services use the patient’s unique clinical profile to provide patient-specific clinical support and help physicians select the best treatment option for each individual.
